The explosion in Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar, near the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Ipoh at about 11am today was from firecrackers, said Ipoh deputy police chief Supt Anuar Othman.

He said the firecrackers were believed to have been placed in a flower vase by an unknown man.

He said personnel from the Forensic Department and the police bomb disposal unit rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the public at about 11.30am.

"Upon arrival, they found a broken vase, but no one was injured in the incident," he told reporters at the scene.

Anuar said according to witnesses, a man wearing a helmet was seen standing near the vase and left the place soon after the explosion.
