Rock singer Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, from local band Wings, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur today to a charge of causing hurt to his former wife.
Awie, 48, made the not guilty plea after the charge was read out before magistrate Husna Dzulkifly.
He was charged with causing hurt to Rozana Misbun, 38, at the Jalan Tun Razak PNB counter at 3pm on June 2, 2014.
The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, carries a term of imprisonment for two years, or fine of RM4,000, or both, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar, who prosecuted, offered bail at RM6,000, but Awie’s lawyer, Hazman Harun, requested for bail to be set at RM1,000 as his client had cooperated during the investigation and the bail was only to ensure his presence in court.
Husna set bail at RM2,000 and warned Awie against intimidating the victim and witnesses. She set Feb 25 for mention.
On July 4, 2014, Awie had pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Magistrate’s Court to a charge of causing grievous hurt on Rozana at a house in Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang, at 1.30 pm on June 2, 2014.
Hearing of the case would continue on Feb 25.
