'Federal gov't to give RM795m to Selangor'

The federal government has committed to providing an allocation of RM795.78 million to the Selangor government, an increase of RM37.27 million from last year.

Selangor state federal action council chairperson Noh Omar said a huge chunk of the allocation totalling RM496.89 million would go to the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris).

"Even though the Selangor government is led by the opposition and on many occasions has accused the federal government of sidelining the state, it still receives additional allocation for 2016.

"We hope the state government will use the allocation given by the federal government strictly for state development and not for other purposes," he told reporters before chairing the council's meeting today.

Besides this, Noh said for the implementation of the 11th Malaysia Plan (2016-2020), the federal government had also approved a total of 289 development projects in Selangor involving an allocation of RM18.37 billion.

However, he said even a huge allocation could not bring about the desired impact for the people if the state government and its local authorities were unable to give their cooperation to the federal government, especially in giving planning permission.
