An unemployed 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday after allegedly dousing his girlfriend with kerosene and setting her on fire on Thursday.

Johor CID chief, SAC Kamarulzaman Mamat said the suspect who had four previous criminal records, including drug-related offences was arrested at ahouse in Jalan Teratai, Taman Johor Jaya, about 5pm.

"We found burn marks on his hands and feet, believed to have incurred during the incident," he said in a statement today.

The girlfriend suffered 40 percent burns on her body during the incident that took place at a premise near a supermarket in Pandan Seri Alam, in Johor Baru, about 11.30am on Thursday.

"The suspect is said to have acted out of jealously. The woman is undergoing treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital and reported to be still unconscious," Kamarulzaman said.

The suspect would be remanded until Feb 21, he added.
