Faiz Subri's fabulous free-kick goal during a match with Pahang last night has earned accolades from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is currently attending the US-Asean summit in California.

In a twitter posting, the prime minister said news of the Penang striker's goal has even reached the United States.

"I saw the (video) clip of the free kick, it was beautiful ( memang cantik )," he added, posting the clip on his Twitter account as well.

Hebat gol freekick Faiz Subri, khabar mengenainya sampai ke Amerika. Sy ada lihat klip freekick itu, memang cantik! pic.twitter.com/JNvNV166mY

However, as always, the prime minister's twitter post drew ridicule from some users, who mocked him saying that he has been scoring numerous goals as well.

Among them, Syamil Hanafi said: "Tuan pun pandai freekick. Sekali sepak 1.5 juta bangla masuk gol Malaysia (Sir, you are good at free kicks (too). One kick, 1.5 million Bangladeshi enter the Malaysian goalmouth).

This was in reference to Putrajaya's plan to bring in the migrant workers, which has become the subject of intense debate.

Another user Fadhil, tweeted: "Nasib sampai Amerika, kalau sampai Arab mesti Faiz dapat duit sebab gol dia power."

The twitter user was taking a swipe at the RM2.6 billion donation from a Saudi royalty which was transferred into the prime minister's personal account prior to the last general election in 2013.

Meanwhile, Faiz's goal also earned praises from British news organisation, The Independent .

The 28-year-old Penang striker, it said, deserved the FIFA Puskas award.

"Faiz Subri is the man who will be in contention for the gong that recognises the best goal of the year thanks to his truly incredible free-kick," read the report.

The Puskas Award, named after 1950s Real Madrid stiker Ferenc Puskas, was established in 2009 by FIFA to recognise players who scored beautiful goals of the year.

Last night's Malaysian Super League match saw Penang trouncing Pahang 4-1.
