Coach says Faizal's 'bend it like Beckham' is no fluke
The internet has been abuzz about Penang FA striker Faiz Subri's goal in he Super League yesterday with videos of his free kick going viral.
Was the spectacular ball bending, akin to former Manchester United star player David Beckham, a cause for optimism for Malaysian football or was it a mere fluke?
Penang FA coach Jacksen Ferreira Tiago said Faiz had pulled off such a stunt before.
"For us, we were not surprised as the team and I are aware of his capabilities.
"He practises it during training sessions. He has done it before if you look at his previous goals," said the Brazilian coach.
During the match against Pahang at the Bandaraya Stadium last night, Faiz scored his third goal with the stunning free kick.
Tiago said even in Brazil, which is well known for its football, not many players can pull off such a kick.
"In Brazil, there are players like Roberto Carlos, Juninho Pernambucano, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo (who can pull off such a kick)," he said.
The coach said he hoped Faiz's success will help boost the whole team going forward in the Super League.
"It's a good motivation for Faiz and the team as the season has just started and we're aiming for a comfortable position in the Super League," he said.
