A senior medical doctor who is based at the Parliament clinic, Dr B Sugumaran, has been missing since the middle of last month.

Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee said Parliament personnel could not contact him after he had failed to turn up at the clinic.

"He has not come for work when (since) the motion on Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) was being tabled in Parliament on Jan 28.

"One officer told us that the doctor has not turned up for work even before that," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Media reported that Dr Sugumaran had failed to report to work for almost two months and the Health Ministry had been trying to find him through his family and contact him on his mobile phone but to no avail.

Ronald said Sugumaran had contacted him in late December to wish him 'Happy New Year'.

"Two weeks later, I tried to call his mobile phone to get health-related advice but failed. At that time, I thought he was on leave. I never thought this would happen.

"For me, he is someone who doesn't have any problems and a very good person," he said.

Ronald said the Kuala Lumpur Hospital had brought in temporary replacement doctors at the Parliament.
