Party supporters are unhappy that new Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah intends to retain all nine state executive councillors who were appointed by his predecessor Mukhriz Mahathir.

"As of now, Bashah intends to retain the old line-up appointed by Mukhriz.

"However, there may be a swap of portfolios," a source from Kedah Umno reportedly told The Star .

This decision was not received well by supporters who had wanted Bashah to make some changes to the line-up.

The menteri besar was supposedly facing pressure to remove three state executive councillors who are said to be linked to Mukhriz.

They are Norsabrina Mohd Noor, Aminuddin Omar, and Suraya Yaacob.

However, Bashah was apparently reluctant to drop Suraya and Norsabrina as they both enjoy considerable influence among their respective wings - Wanita Umno and Puteri Umno.

Several names had also been suggested for the new state exco line-up of state, such as Bukit Lada assemblyperson Ahmad Lebai Sudin and Pantai Merdeka assemblyperson Ali Yahaya.

The executive councillors are expected to have their swearing-in ceremony at Balai Penghadapan Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, on Monday.

Mukhriz was replaced as Kedah menteri besar by then-Kedah Umno vice-chief Bashah, who was later promoted to state liaison chief.

This was after several weeks of contention following Bashah's announcement that most of the state assemblypersons had lost confidence in Mukhriz's leadership.
