Pakatan Harapan may not contest in all the 82 seats for the upcoming Sarawak state election out of respect for PAS.

Pakatan Harapan chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah said discussions between Harapan and PAS are ongoing.

"Our decision today is that we will respect PAS' wishes to contest.

"There are friends in Sarawak who are in communication with PAS there," he told reporters after a Harapan meeting on the state election in Shah Alam.

Saifuddin also revealed that seat allocations within Harapan is still being carried out and will be concluded before the campaign period commences.

"We want to ensure there are straight fights. We don't want BN to win without a contest," he said.

"The principle is to prevent fighting among ourselves – (let it be) one to one between Pakatan Harapan and BN.”

"In Sarawak, we will communicate with each other as soon as possible."

He said the seat allocation will be settled latest by the end of March.

"We are trying to solve it soonest possible. We don't know the voting date. We wish we can settle before the end of March."

Previously, PAS announced it will contest in 11 state seats, as well as fielding non-Muslims in the coming Sarawak election.

Amanah said it will also field its non-Muslim members in the election.
