Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin has warned his party against taking disciplinary action against him without sufficient evidence of wrongdoing.

"I want to remind the secretary-general and all those at the top, do not simply take action against me unless you have sufficient proof to show whatever I have done is wrong from the point of view of the party and constitution," he said at a programme in Port Dickson today.

Muhyiddin got into hot water with Najib loyalists in Umno following his speech on Dec 7 last year in Kampung Baru, detailing his grievances with the party after being stopped from speaking at the party's 2015 general assembly.

Later that month, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced that Muhyiddin's speech will be investigated by the party.

Tengku Adnan said Muhyiddin may face censure after findings from the investigations are brought to the party's disciplinary board and the Supreme Council for action.

The secretary-general lamented that Muhyiddin has brought internal party matters to a public forum, which he stressed should have been handled behind closed doors and via proper party mechanisms.

Muhyiddin was fired from the cabinet in July 2015, losing his deputy prime minister post after voicing criticisms over the operations of 1Malaysia Development Berhad and the RM2.6 billion in supposed donations that was deposited into Najib's personal accounts.

Since then, Muhyiddin has complained that he has been sidelined from party affairs.
