It is crucial for journalists to verify viral content and online rumours before publishing them, Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) chairperson Yong Ted Phen said today.
"As journalists, we must be wary of the information circulating on social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp as they could be true or false rumours.
"Hence, it is crucial to verify viral content and online rumours before publishing," he said in his speech at KKJA Chinese New Luncheon 2016 in Kota Kinabalu today.
The luncheon was graced by Chief Minister Musa Aman.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Raymond Tan Shu Kiah; state Tourism, Cultural and Environment Minister Masidi Manjun; and KKJA's advisers, sponsors and members.
At the event, Musa and guests tossed a Chinese dish 'Lau Sang' to symbolically partake in the luncheon, besides watching various performances including a lion dance and songs.
