Umno supreme council member and Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz wants stern action to be taken against party deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin for his continuous attacks against the party chief Najib Abdul Razak.

Nazri was reported in The Star Online as saying that he will propose in the upcoming party supreme council meeting that Muhyiddin be suspended for undermining Najib, who is also the prime minister.

"He has to remember that he is not an ordinary member. He is the party deputy president. According to the party constitution, he is supposed to assist the president.

"However, I think he (Muhyiddin) has gone overboard this time," he said in Sabak Bernam today.

When the knives were out for Muhyiddin late last year, Nazri pledged to continue speaking in Muhyiddin's defence, and against his suspension.

However, Nazri today claimed Muhyiddin had criticised the party leadership when he openly spoke to a group of party critics just before the last Umno general assembly.

"If he thinks he is doing the right thing, he should just leave and fight in the open. I think his actions have gone beyond what is considered reasonable," said Nazri.

It was reported that party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said a committee was set up to study Muhyiddin's speech which he gave at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, a day before the party's AGM and submit recommendations to the party disciplinary board.

This followed the move not to allow Muhyiddin to address the joint Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings' meeting which according to Umno tradition is one of the deputy president's duties.

The Umno deputy president, in Port Dickson over the weekend, had alleged that Najib had prevented him from performing his duties and urged the disciplinary board to have solid proof if it wanted to act against him.

Muhyiddin had also expressed concerns over 1MDB and had advised Najib to resign as its adviser until its issues were resolved.
