Only minor changes have been made to the portfolios of the Kedah state executive councillors announced today by Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

All the nine councillors were retained from the state executive council that was led by former menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Ahmad Bashah himself holds the portfolio formerly held by Mukhriz, which is State Planning, Economic Planning, Land Affairs, Land Produce and Natural Resources, State Action Council, Finance and State-Owned Companies.

“Five councillors have portfolios with minor changes and additions while the rest maintain their previous portfolios,” the menteri besar told a press conference after the nine state executive councillors were sworn in in Alor Setar today.

The five councillors are Guar Chempedak assemblyperson Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (Industry and Investment, Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs and Cooperative, and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT)); Tanjung Dawai assemblyperson Tajul Urus Mat Zain (Education, Transport and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO)).

Kuala Nerang assemblyperson Badrol Hisham Hashim (Housing and Local Government, Water Supply, Water and Energy Resources); Ayer Hangat assemblyperson Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid (Religious, Tourism and Heritage, and Works); and Gurun assemblyperson Dr Leong Yong Kong (Environment, Chinese, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs, Health and Solidarity).

The four councillors who maintained their portfolios are Jitra assemblyperson Aminuddin Omar (Youth and Sports, Arts and Culture, Human Development); Belantik assemblyperson Mohd Tajudin Abdullah (Information, Rural Development and Poverty Eradication).

Bandar Baharu assemblyperson Noorsabrina Mohd Noor (Science, Innovation and Information Technology, Communications and Advanced Technology and Information Resources); Sungai Tiang assemblyperson Suraya Yaacob (Women Development, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Entrepreneur Development and Social Welfare).

Ahmad Bashah said the most obvious change in the portfolios were of Dr Ku Rahman, who has also been entrusted with the new IMT-GT portfolio, and for Tajul Urus, who would also be in charge of the NGO portfolio formerly held by Badrol, while Dr Leong would handle the Siamese Community Affairs portfolio formerly held by Mohd Rawi.

All the nine councillors took their oath of office today before the chairperson of the Kedah Council of Regency Tunku Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah at Istana Anak Bukit.
