Treat all constituencies equally, Tian Chua reminds Ku Nan

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has been reminded to treat all constituencies equally regardless of whether they are Barisan Nasional-led or otherwise.

PKR parliamentarian Tian Chua gave this reminder in response to Tengku Adnan who had purportedly said that he preferred to provide assistance to BN-led constituencies when launching the new bridge connecting Kampung Batu Muda and Taman Metropolitan Baru on Monday.

Tengku Adnan was quoted by The Malaysian Insider that he assisted the residents in Kampung Batu Muda – which is under a PKR-led constituency – out of “no choice”.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you still get to enjoy these benefits even though this is not a BN area, but as a responsible government and (our) prime minister who cares about the welfare of the people, we decided to implement this project,” Tengku Adnan was quoted as saying.

"If it was up to me, I would not have wanted this, I would have given it to a BN area.”

Condemning Tengku Adnan’s remarks as “unbecoming of a minister”, Chua ( photo ) said the former’s statement indicated that he did not understand the principles of democracy.

Residents in the Batu parliamentary seat, or any other constituency, should be treated equally while allocations, developments and assistance should likewise be provided equally, he said in a statement.

“The residents in non-BN led constituencies should not be penalised over the political tussle between parties.

“Governments from civilised democracies would not penalise their citizens for their choice of vote. The rakyat deserve a fair and just government,” Chua added.
