The Negri Sembilan state government will monitor the transportation of quarry and mining products to ensure they do not flout the conditions of the permits issued.

Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said that, despite the ruling in the permits that prohibits the movement or transportation of these products during the weekends or public holidays, such movements were still taking place.

“There is a strong possibility that the government is losing income or revenue if the products are moved or transported on weekends or public holidays because they cannot be monitored and counted as the government departments are not open. So, this must be rectified.

“Enforcement must be conducted to ensure the activity does not result in a loss of income for the state government and at the same time the operations of the industries are not affected,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a state exco meeting in Seremban today, he said a discussion would be held with the quarters involved soon to resolve the problem.

“We want to check and investigate this first but what is important, we do not want government revenue, which is the people’s right, to simply be wasted. We will not compromise on this matter,” he said.

In another development, Mohamad also urged the public not to become victims of unlicensed foreign exchange activities which promised a lucrative return in a short time.

“I urge the public not to be easily charmed by those who call themselves foreign exchange experts. If you do not know what is happening, you will in the end become victims and suffer losses.

“The activity must be checked, before it becomes a disease in society,” he said.

Earlier, Mohamad handed over contributions for study aid, medical, disasters and charity activities to several non-government organisations and individuals.

Mohamad also received a courtesy call from Lee Chong Meng, 68, of Port Dickson who is attempting a solo climb of Mount Everest in April.
