Shahidan happy with crisis management during Sarawak floods
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim has expressed satisfaction with the crisis management and media coverage during the recent floods in Sarawak.
Shahidan, who is the minister in charge of disaster management, flew into this state capital last night to have a first-hand look at the flood disaster management.
Floods in Kuching, Serian and Samarahan over the past several days had sent over 7,000 people to 57 relief centres in the three divisions.
The number of evacuees dropped to 1,523 as of 8am today, all of them being housed at seven relief centres in Serian.
At a press conference last night at the Serian community hall, about 50km from Kuching, Shahidan said he was happy with the aid and assistance provided by individuals and various agencies during the floods.
They included volunteers and NGOs, and were informed of the flood situation through the wide media coverage, both by mainstream and social media, he said.
Shahidan said the people who were unhappy with the flood relief work were a small group that was always dissatisfied with everything.
