MyKMU.net , a portal aligned to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today launched a broadside against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) operations review panel (OPR).

This is over former Bar Council president and OPR member Lim Chee Wee's statement almost a month ago which questioned attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's decision to end high-profile investigations against the prime minister.

The pro-Najib portal also took issue with similar assertions made in a report by The Malaysian Insider ( TMI ) yesterday.

The report had quoted sources stating that the OPR wanted the case against Najib to be re-opened.

TMI was blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission today.

In a letter published on MyKMU today, it said Lim was the only panel member to have openly questioned the attorney-general's refusal to prosecute and the panel itself had never made any official statement to that effect.

“Comments related to the OPR views in the donation and SRC International cases were only based on sources, instead of an official statement.

“One big question mark is that if the panel was really unhappy, why did it not call Apandi to seek his explanation?” said the blog, pointing out that such a move was done during the tenure of Apandi’s predecessor Abdul Gani Patail.

Contrary to the the its claim, the MACC did issue an official statement yesterday stating that the OPR agreed that the commission should resubmit the SRC International case to the attorney-general for review.

MACC said the OPR has also advised the commission to seek the attorney-general to issue Mutual Legal Assistance so that it can obtain overseas banking records in relation to the deposits of RM2.6 billion into Najib's personal bank accounts.

Furthermore, the OPR was also scheduled to meet Apandi on Feb 18 but the attorney-general called off the meeting at the last minute.

The MACC was investigating the deposits of RM42 million from state-owned company SRC International as well as US$681 million from overseas into Najib's personal bank accounts.

Apandi have cleared Najib of wrongdoing but the MACC is appealing the decision not to prosecute.
