The Education Ministry is awaiting a full report from the hospital on the case of pupils of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Nigel Gardner, Hulu Selangor who ate a breakfast of fried noodles believed to be tainted with glass shards.

Its minister Mahdzir Khalid said the medical report was needed before action could be taken against the company which provided the food.

"I am still waiting for the medical report to determine if there were criminal elements. We have to determine what were the actual contents of the noodle dish," he said, when commenting on the incident today.

It was reported last Sunday that seven pupils of SJKT Ladang Nigel Gardner, Hulu Selangor, were admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital on Friday after eating fried noodles containing glass shards, provided under the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT).

Speaking to the media after attending a ceremony to present the best school and best student awards in the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examination and Malaysian University English Test (MUET) 2015, in Putrajaya, Mahdzir said it was the first such case involving food provided under the RMT.

He advised RMT contractors to maintain cleanliness and quality standards of the food.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in his blog said he shared the anger of parents of the affected children and ordered a thorough investigation to identify the problems in the food-handling procedure so that such an incident would not recur.
