DAP excos under fire for confusing statements over school field

Penang MCA has accused the DAP of being hypocritical over its stand on the Penang Chinese Girls’ High School (PCGHS) field.

State MCA liaison committee deputy chairperson Tan Teik Cheng said the contradicting statements by DAP state executive councillors regarding the field showed how hypocritical the party is.

Tan was referring to statements made by Penang state executive councillors Chow Kon Yeow and Chong Eng.

“Chow had expressed regret that the PCGHS was unwilling to sacrifice the land to develop the Transport Master Plan (TMP), while Chong Eng denied that the initially proposed land acquisition had anything to do with TMP.

“Who is telling the truth? Penangites demand the DAP-led state government come out with a reasonable explanation,” Tan said in a statement.

He added that while DAP claimed to “protect Chinese education”, it had shown hypocrisy by “intruding” into PCGHS land.

“If the state government could use development as an excuse to forcefully acquire a school field, PCGHS will not be the last to be sacrificed.

“Very soon, we will be having a second and a third,” said Tan.

Tan also urged DAP to stop “damaging” Chinese education and “manipulating” the Chinese community.

According to a Malaysiakini report on Wednesday, the PCGHS board has launched a campaign to ensure that the school field would not be acquired by the Penang government for its Penang Island Links project under the TMP.
