A former Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) assistant civil engineer was fined RM14,000 in default 12 months’ jail by the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today for obtaining for his own company a drain maintenance project in Sentul four years ago.

Judge Allaudeen Ismail passed down the fine to Mohd Dasuky Abdul Manaf, 28, after he changed his plea to guilty to an alternative charge offered to him today.

Mohd Dasuky paid the fine.

Under the alternative charge, Mohd Dasuky, who was then a civil technician at the DBKL Civil Engineering and Drainage Department, was accused of obtaining for himself a contract for main drain maintenance work worth RM56,240 from Syarikat Primak as a subcontractor for his own company, Teras Paskal Enterprise, at Jalan 2/48A and Jalan Dato Senu 3, Sentul in Kuala Lumpur between May and July 2012.

The charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of two years or with fine or with both, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Bukhairi Wan Mohd prosecuted, while Mohd Dasuky was represented by lawyer Abd Razak Abd Bakar.

On May 19, 2015, Mohd Dasuky pleaded not guilty to the original charge of accepting a bribe in the form of road divider installation work for the main drain maintenance project from Syarikat Primak as a subcontractor for his own company Teras Paskal Enterprise.

For the offence, he was charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
