A medical assistant was today charged with 24 counts of forgery for allegedly forging medical certificates and having in his possession rubber stamps bearing the names of numerous doctors, two years ago.

Mohd Shahrizan Ismail Sinen, 37, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out to him in two Magistrate’s Courts in Seremban.

He was charged with forging seven medical certificates and having in his possession 17 rubber stamps bearing the names of doctors, including Dr J Arvind, Dr Teoh See Wie, Dr Tey Yee Sin, Dr Khairul Azlan Abu Dahari, Dr Chong Wern Yih, Dr Samjeev Murugappa, Dr Puspha Raman, Dr Wan Muhammad Azfar Wan Shuaib and Dr Shankar, with the intention to use them in forging the documents.

He was alleged to have committed the offences at No135, Jalan TBS 1, Taman Bunga Sejati, Kuala Sawah, here between July and September 2014.

If convicted, he could be punished under Section 465/473 of the Penal Code which provides maximum jail term or seven years or fine, or both.

Magistrate Siti Khairiah Abdul Razak who heard the first 12 charges allowed Mohd Shahrizan bail of RM2,000 for each charge in one surety, while Magistrate Rahimah Rahim, allowed the accused bail of RM2,500 for the next three charges and RM1,500 for the remaining nine, also in one surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Rinisha Priya and Siti Khadijah Mohd Pisol prosecuted, while the accused was represented by A Partheeban.

Both courts set March 25 for re-mention.
