Seven policemen claimed trial in the Sessions Court in Butterworth today to three bribery charges involving RM17,000.
ASP Muharishanizam Abas, Insp Mohd Edzrin Ferdini Mansor and Corporal Low Guo Tzong are accused of soliciting RM10,000 from one Ong Poo Huat as an inducement not to take action against the latter for an alleged drug offence.
The three are based at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters, narcotics criminal investigation department.
Others named in the charge were Sgt Harun Ahmad, L/Corporal Mohammad Amirul Akmal Mohamad Khir and L/Corporal Muhammad Azman Mohd Azhari who are based at the South Seberang Perai District Police Headquarters, narcotics criminal investigation department.
On the second charge, the six are accused of corruptly accepting RM4,000 from the same victim for the same intention.
They allegedly committed the offences at No 17 and 19, Lorong Belatuk 6, Taman Belatuk, Nibong Tebal in Butterworth, between 5.40am and 7pm on Jan 13, 2015.
On the third charge, the six are accused with Corporal Zambri Nordin from the South Seberang Perai narcotics police of corruptly accepting RM3,000 from Ong for the same intention, at the same place at 5 pm on Jan 17, 2015.
Judge Julie Lack Abdullah set bail at RM8,000 with one surety for Muharishanizam and Mohd Edzrin Ferdini and RM5,000 with one surety for the other five accused.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Ghazali Muhamad Nazdri represented the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission while the six accused were unrepresented.
