Moderate earthquake hits south-west Sumatra

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck south-west of Sumatra at 4.20am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
MetMalaysia in a statement said the quake epicentre was 604km south-west of Siberut, Indonesia and 1,110km south-west of Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.
The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it said.
