PARLIAMENT The government will not donate to companies and persons who go bankrupt, said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today.

"We cannot give donation to those who go bankrupt, but we can only advise them on (matters related) to financial management for the individuals and companies," he said.

He was responding to Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (PKR-Bukit Katil), who asked if the government will set up a donation fund for the bankrupt during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat.

However, he said the relevant bodies which govern matters on insolvency may consider the possibility of getting them out of bankruptcy if their status were caused by economic situation, not due to their weaknesses or negligence.

Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, vowed that the government will continue with its projects and programmes despite the challenges of fiscal constrain and the global economy.

He reiterated that the government will implement the people centric and high multiplier impact programmes.

The Finance Ministry had issued a guideline last Tuesday to optimise the government's expenditure, he said.
