Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim said that DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang's statement about the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's speech being prepared by the government is unwise, as it can be seen to be inviting the rakyat to doubt the royal address.

"The statement can be seen to invite the public to not accept the Agong's address," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He said that as a veteran MP, Lim should have known the role and function of the Agong in parliamentary democracy.

"I think it is either that Lim does not understand or he is pretending not to understand, or he is willfully inviting the rakyat to misinterpret it. I think it is an unwise statement.

"He has to look at the role of the Agong as a ruler who receives advice from the PM. That is the role of a constitutional ruler," he said.

Yesterday, Lim said that the text of the Agong's royal address to Parliament was prepared by the government. The King had mentioned his wish that the current administration be maintained in order for Malaysia to become a high-income country.

The Agong had also urged parliamentarians to stop politicking for narrow gains as this was tiring out the people and affecting governance.

Lim's statement was later supported Parti Amanah Negara president Ahmad Sabu who also expressed his concern over the apparent message in the Agong's speech.

"We are from political parties, we have to engage in politics until they day we die. We are politicians, we are not from NGOs," said the Amanah chief.

Following their remarks, three police reports were lodged today against Lim, Ahmad and Malaysiakini allegedly because the statements were tantamount to insulting the Agong and done with the motive of belittling the monarchy.
