Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the son of Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud, will know by tomorrow whether his former wife succeeds in her mutaah (alimony) claim for RM100 million at the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court.

This is the single largest claim ever sought in the country's Syariah Court.

Syariah High Court judge Mohamad Abdul Karim Wahab would deliver his decision at Court Six tomorrow afternoon.

The former wife, Shahnaz A Majid, who is the elder sister to jazz queen Sheila Majid, is also seeking another claim of RM300 million for joint matrimonial assets.

Hearing for the joint matrimonial assets has yet to begin.

The Syariah Court of Appeal had last year struck off a RM121 million claim for child maintenance, where it ruled the claim is against hukum syarak as their son Raden Murya had matured.

The couple were married in 1992, and had been living separately since 1999. Raden Murya is their only child.

Bekir divorced Shahnaz when he uttered talak (proclamation of divorce) on May 2011 in court. This was after the former wife filed a claim to seek divorce, mutaah and joint matrimonial assets, after not having lived together for 12 years .

A total of four witnesses, including Shahnaz, testified for the plaintiff while the governor's son was the only witness who testified for the respondent.

Shahnaz in her testimony told the court on the alleged physical abuses that she had undergone and her claims for her former husband's wealth, along with her role in some of the companies he owned.

The other witness who testified for Shahnaz was her hired chartered accountant Andrew Heng, who gave evidence that Bekir's assets are worth between RM916 million to RM1.334 billion.

The other two are bank officers, one from Maybank who testified on Bekir's credit card expenses and another from CIMB over his banking accounts.

Bekir also testified that his ownership in Cahya Mata Sarawak was sufficient to pay Shahnaz's claim.

The son of the former chief minister also testified that Shahnaz was not entitled to the alimony claim as he had paid for her house and cars.

The hearing also saw a change of judge following a ruling made by the Syariah Court of Appeal.

Finally, it's D-Day for both Bekir and Shahnaz tomorrow.
