Awie files bid for review of charges of causing hurt to ex-wife

Rock singer Awie, who was charged with causing hurt to his ex-wife at the counter of PNB in Jalan Tun Razak two years ago, will submit a letter of representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers to review the charges against him.

Counsel Hazman Harun who is representing the Wings band vocalist, whose real is Ahmad Azhar Othman, 48, announced the matter when the case came up for mention again before Magistrate Husna Dzulkifly.

“There are new developments involving the accused namely Awie and we are seeking the court to set a new date for case management to give us time to file the letter of representation,” said Hazman.

The court fixed March 16 for case management on the representation of the development.

“If there are no latest developments, the court will set the date for trial of the case,” Husna said.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar.

On Feb 15, Awie, who is a father of five, pleaded not guilty against charges of causing hurt to his ex-wife, Rozana Misbun, 38, at the counter of PNB in Jalan Tun Razak, in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm on June 2, 2014.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a sentence of two years imprisonment or a fine of RM4,000 or both upon conviction.

Two days ago, the Ampang Magistrate’s Court acquitted and discharged Awie from charges of hurting Rozana at a house in Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang after the two parties agreed that the case be settled with the payment of a RM10,000 compound and an apology from Awie.
