Ku Li makes decisive stand - stay firmly on the fence

YOURSAY | ‘Razaleigh is nothing more than a flawed product of the Umno culture.’

Ku Li: I didn't support campaign against PM

Milosevic: It is becoming clear by the day that any alternative leadership to Dr Mahathir Mohamad would have been worse for the country.

Mahathir should be condemned for the many things he did, but this is not the same as saying other leaders would have done Malaysia good.

Just look at Umno now. It is so sickening to see Malaysia ruled by an inept, corrupt, fascistic clique. It is the natural denouement of narrow racial and religious thinking. No East Asian culture would have produced this kind of pathetic administration.

The decline of British influence and the withering of Chinese strength have allowed the indigenous ruling class to assert itself with feeble resistance from the unreflective base.

The use of Islam is a convenient crutch to claim "specialness" but it has failed in Malaysia to produce rationality, tolerance, or make any contribution to world culture - only spin and rip-off artists.

Veteran Umno leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is nothing more than a flawed product of this culture.

Tao Student: Ku Li's statement in distancing himself from the Save Malaysia campaign to bring PM Najib Razak down is a rude slap to those who, before this, dreamed that Ku Li would lead the movement against Najib and believe he was the best candidate to be the next PM.

As I have always said, Ku Li is part of the Malay elite who is unwilling to go through the necessary hardship to bring change in the establishment.

That is why he lost to Mahathir. That is why he failed after leaving the ruling pact. That is also the reason he rejoined Umno. He just doesn't have guts like Mahathir does.

Clever Voter: Razaleigh as a politician lacks the courage to take a stand when it matters. A fence-sitter, he doesn't mean what he says and act what he espouses. That sums up an accurate impression of him.

Victor Johan: This is the man who had given hope when he founded Semangat 46 and formed Barisan Alternatif, an alternative to Umno-led Barisan Nasional.

Eventually he went crawling back to Mahathir-led Umno. He basically threw out the rakyat's aspirations then. Now, what is he championing?

Multi Racial: Yes, that is why Razaleigh is a failed politician. He has always played safe and does not have the courage to truly champion the people’s aspiration.

This will take him nowhere. Unfortunately, time is not on his side. Indeed, why is Razaleigh playing safe at his age?

Sans Blinkers: Ku Li, you don't have to support the declaration, it's your right. However, as an MP you have to voice your opposition to wrongdoings, even within Umno.

Many people used to look up to you, and you have now forfeited this respect. It’s time for you to retire as MP.

Dalvik: History has proven many times that Ku Li is never a statesman. He is just an opportunist politician. He gave feel-good statements, but his actions may be totally the opposite.

We should move on and forget the option of having him as our next PM.

Ferdtan: Razaleigh is not committing himself to either pro- or anti-Najib.

He even did not dare to give straight answer to a simple question on his stand. He is a typical fence-sitter not wanting to displease both sides.

Ku Li, learn from this quote, “The enemies you make by taking a decided stand generally have more respect for you than the friends you make by being on the fence.”

Good Men: Once again, a decisive stand by Ku Li - staying firmly on the fence, and hoping that when the cards fall, he is suddenly PM.

Hearty Malaysian: Razaleigh, you want to have the PM’s post handed over to you on golden plate?

Stop being evasive. Do you want to be part of the team to rescue Malaysia or are you just another Umno member on the gravy train for too long that you dare not rock the boat?

Anonymous #05023297: He always has grand suggestions but simply lacks the guts to make the jump from his cushy MP office. Never mind him... no loss for anyone.

He stays where he is and be a nobody. Definitively not a PM material.

Falcon: Many give grand bourgeoisie speeches, dipped in Oxford or Nottingham flavour, but miserably fail to stand up to all forms of brutality and abuse.

It looks like they live in glass houses. We do not and cannot blame them, surely, as they have yet to go to bed hungry trying to make ends meet.

Anonymous 122461436161429: He prefers to keep all his options open. He has not taken any stand. He is not about to.

And this was the 80-year-old man who was earmarked at one point to be the PM? What a joke. But then again, Umno is a joke, isn't it?
