JAKARTA - An Indonesian woman who married a fugitive Malaysian terror suspect went on trial today, charged with concealing her new husband from police and falsifying his name on their marriage licence.

Munfiatun, who wed Bali bomb suspect Noordin Mohammad Top in July 2004, appeared in court at Bangil in East Java province, wearing a black Muslim robe and veil that covered everything but her eyes and hands.

If found guilty, the 28-year-old university graduate could face up to 15 years in jail for concealing information on a wanted suspect and a further seven years for falsifying the marriage papers, Judge Amir Yan told AFP .

On the run

Prosecutors, according to Yan, told the court that Munfiatun was together with Top for at least three days after their marriage in Bangil.

Noordin and his compatriot, master bombmaker Azahari Husin, are being hunted by police who say they are senior members of the al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah militant network.

They are accused of playing a key part in the October 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people and have since been linked to deadly attacks on a hotel and an embassy in Jakarta.

Authorities have warned they are planning another attack.

The trial resumes on Feb 14.
