The official website for Pembina, the youth wing of Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma), has grabbed the Best Blog of The Year Award at the Malaysian Social Media Week (MSMW/) Awards 2016.

Pembina, or as it is officially named Persatuan Belia Islam Nasional, beat 10 others to clinch the award.

Some of the competitors included lifestyle blog Cik Epal, music blog Spin or Bin Music, the blog of real-life house-husband Hasrul Hassan as well as the Small n Hot fashion blog.

According to the official website for the award, Pembina was nominated as it "provides a working platform to youth members to enhance youth empowerment and activism, to contribute to the welfare of society and uphold rightful beliefs".

"The win is unexpected as this is our first time participating in the the prestigious Malaysian Social Media Week Awards this year, despite the awards having been around for several years," said Pembina media chief Aizat Farhan in a statement.

He added that the competition was also quite stiff as Pembina faced more established blogs with more numerous followers.

Aizat also thanked the Pembina marketing unit, members, leaders and all those who have had a hand in ensuring the blog got to where it is today.

In the same statement, Pembina president Eqwan Roslan said that he saw the award as a means to propel the orgnisation to expand its reach.

"We hope through MSMW, our voice will reach more students and convey the holistic message of Islam to them," he said.

Pembina was set up by Isma to actively engage with university students to spread the call of holistic Islam and inculcate positive developments in Muslim youths.
