PM will still be a Malay if Najib ousted, Zaid assures

A Malay will still be the prime minister if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is overthrown, assured former law minister Zaid Ibrahim.

This is because Malays make up the majority in the country, he said.

"A Malay will still be prime minister. Malays will continue to hold more seats in the cabinet, but the Chinese and Indian members will be real representatives of their communities," he wrote in his blog today.

Zaid added that if DAP were to replace MCA in the cabinet, it would not be because they are apple polishers, but because they would serve the country.

"If DAP leaders are in the cabinet, then its because they are not sycophants. They are in the cabinet because they are interested in nation building, and not in business deals.

"They will hold their respective portfolios on merit and have good policies to offer. If Lim Kit Siang is in the cabinet to replace the MCA component, it will be good for the country," he said.

Zaid said this in a post praising the coming together of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Lim (photo), whom he said were Malay and Chinese heroes respectively, in the Save Malaysia movement.

He also lauded jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's move to endorse the movement.

"This is a momentous time. Three gigantic leaders have set aside past animosities and agreed that they must work tougher because the country’s future is at stake," Zaid said.

He said Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor understood how significant this convergence of leaders was.

"That’s why he was jumping and hollering non stop," he said.

The Save Malaysia movement launched on March 4 aims to oust Najib and implement institutional reforms.

The group features Umno rebels, as well as opposition and civil society leaders.
