PARLIAMENT A DAP lawmaker is baffled why taking selfies with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is okay, but asking questions is not.

"It's quite strange. The prime minister is now busy going to the ground to 'meet and greet' with his fans so they can shake his hand and take selfies.

"But when two Australian journalists get close to him to ask questions about the 1MDB scandal, suddenly it's considered a crime," Kashturi Patto (DAP-Batu Kawan) said in the House today.

She was commenting on the detention of two Australian Broadcasting Corp (ABC) journalists in Sarawak on Saturday while trying to pose questions to the prime minister regarding the RM2.6 billion donation scandal.

Sarawak police said the duo had “aggressively” pursued Najib, prompting the arrest.

However, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed today said the Australian journalists have to be deported because they breached immigration laws.

Kashturi said the journalists should not have been arrested in the first place.

She added that it also gave a negative impression that security forces were working together to protect the prime minister from hard questions.

"(But these) are questions that are also being asked by lawmakers here, and by all Malaysians," she said.
