Dr M: A PM can be removed before term ends

Mushiro: Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad is attacking PM Najib Razak’s soft spots. It is clear that Najib has messed up 1MDB and has allegedly taken RM2.6 billion from it.

The donation theory is a tall story. Najib has refused to clear himself legally as he knows he will be caught.

He has only fooled himself by dismantling the original Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the special task force and the investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Bank Negara.

Removing the previous attorney-general, Abdul Gani Patail, was a career-saving move for Najib, but the slips are showing.

Jbsuara: Yes, it would be better to remove the inept and tainted prime minister early because the PM and his ‘clueless’ cabinet are the reason why the economy is crumbling and why citizens are suffering from high taxes, the weak ringgit and wasteful spending.

The international image of Malaysia is at an all-time low with the 1MDB corruption saga, Najib's RM2.6 billion 'donation' and blatant abuse of institutions by the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) making headlines all over the world.

Anonymous 2401581457065158: It is undemocratic to remove the PM before his term ends. Mahathir has a hidden agenda to replace Najib.

The main target is to create chaos in our country, that's why he could cooperate with the opposition political parties. Malaysians should realise his 'game'.

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Mahathir is right. Australia has the same system as our country. It has changed prime ministers before the end of their terms, the latest bring Tony Abbott who was booted out before completing his term of office.

He did not have any scandals nor corruption issues, and yet he was ousted. On the other hand, Najib has tons of those piling up on his head and he insists on continuing as PM. What a shame.

The Analyser: Mahathir is a typically insecure Malaysian. So selfish he cannot see further than his own personal agenda. An agenda which has little or nothing to do with the whole country and its people.

Fairnsquare: Those living in the past will keep blaming TDM. Those thinking of the future will support his move.

We need Najib to clear his name, or stand down and allow an independent investigation into the allegations against him.

Anonymous 2401591457075416: Mahathir’s legacy is simple. He handed power to Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2003. His son, Mukhriz, would become the Umno Youth deputy chief the following year.

In 2009, Mukhriz would take over as Umno Youth chief. In 2013, Mukhriz would be elected as one of the Umno vice-presidents. In 2016 (now postponed to 2018), Mukhriz would become the Umno deputy president.

And by 2020, Mukhriz would be the Umno president and in that same move would become the new Malaysian PM.

Over50ABU: The man who wants him removed is the same person who appointed him and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. He is not only wrong about the PMs but the deputies as well.

Is this person even credible to name another PM? Is he doing it for his self-lust for power and money?

Najib will be punished for his crimes, but will the crimes of Mahathir be punished as well?

Vijay47: Those whose rallying cry seems to be "Najib till the end!" appear to be parroting Najib's famous call "We must defend Putrajaya even if our bones are crushed" or some crap like that.

Going by Umno's present stand, a prime minister's tenure is cast in stone, or, as in Najib's case, even divinely inspired, and he cannot be removed come hell or high water.

Alas, a prime minister does not enjoy such permanence. Perhaps the people's voice in the streets may not be effective but the objective can be achieved through Parliament - should the prime minister no longer command the support of the majority of the members, he will have to step down, or I presume, be expelled.

This eventuality may not be too far in the offing. And Mahathir, your statement that Muhyiddin Yassin could become prime minister if he became head of Umno is not quite correct, there is no 11th Commandment holding that Malaysia's prime minister must be from Umno.

Victor Johan: At present, the nation has an allegedly corrupt and tainted PM, and the populace is concerned about this reality. The populace has control over the current PM, and have very little concerned about past PMs.

Although these past PMs were and are responsible for the opportunity and possibility of dubious workings of the present PM, to the populace, these are areas beyond their control and they wouldn't want to dwell in the past.

In short, the populace now has full control to oust Najib and his cahoots, and they will just do that.
