Hishammuddin: March 27 gathering 'just another rally'
The March 27 gathering against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will be "just another rally", said Defence Minister Hishamuddin Hussein.
He said there have been many rallies and predictions of doom and none materialised.
"There have been many rallies, watersheds, predictions, especially last year.
"(There were predictions) about a no confidence vote, Budget 2016 not being approved, the Umno annual general assembly being a mess [...] That didn't happen," he told a press conference in the parliament lobby.
The March 27 gathering is being organised by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, and is part of the Save Malaysia movement.
Among the speakers at the closed door event will include Najib's arch-nemesis, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Besides ousting Najib, the Save Malaysia movement also seeks to implement institutional reforms.
Hishamuddin dismissed the anti-Najib group's claims that they are representing the people.
"They (Najib's dissenters) might be shouting loud, but they don't represent the voices of the majority," he said.
He added was just another thing the government had to deal with.
