The Communications and Multimedia Ministry is setting up a ‘speaker’s corner’ to give the ministry staff a chance to share knowledge and improve on their communication skills.

Its secretary-general, Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, said the speaker’s corner would act as a medium for staff especially young officers to speak and debate in public.

She said it would be organised every month and those interested were free to speak on any topic, without touching on sensitive matters involving politics, race, religion or individuals.

“It is also a channel to explain on current issues happening in thecountry or abroad and to share information, in line with the ministry’s objective in promoting access to communication in meeting economic and social needs of the community,” she said at the launch of the speaker’s corner at the ministry’s lobby in Putrajaya today.

Her speech text was read out by deputy secretary-general (policy) Mohid Mohamed.

She said the programme to be held monthly during lunch-break (1 to 2pm), would allow a person to speak for 10 to 15 minutes.

“Staff participation in this speaker’s corner programme is very much encouraged as marks will be considered for their Annual Performance Evaluation Report (LNPT),” she said.

To motivate speakers, best speaker awards would be presented to those who qualify at the end of 2016, she added.
