A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck Talaud Islands at 9.09 tonight, according to the Meteorological Department.

It said the epicentre of the quake was 165km north-west of Talaud Island of Indonesia and 743km north-east of Semporna, Sabah.

The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it said in the statement.
