Najib or Dr M? Settle it with a referendum, says Mahathir

Limfly: I agree with a referendum to decide if the rakyat wants Premier Najib Abdul Razak to continue as premier. But I disagree that Najib and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad should be pitted against one another.

Mahathir's ego is getting in the way again. It's not about him. It's about Najib. A tick for Najib to continue. A cross for Najib to step down. I know how I would vote.

Ace: Mahathir, don't be delusional. We don't want Najib but we also don't want you.

True Colors: Yes, the referendum is definitely a good way for closure. However, it should simply be whether Najib should stay on as premier. The Mahathir element should not be in the picture.

Anyway, this idea of referendum is just another dream. It will never happen under the current leadership.

No way he is going to do anything to jeopardise his position. Referendum? No hope of it happening.

Existential Turd: What the people want is a good, clean government led by good, clean people. Neither Dr M nor Najib fits the bill. We could not care less who is less bad.

Every Vote Counts: “The referendum should be conducted by a reliable foreign public opinion company, overseen by representatives of the two people concerned,” said Mahathir.

This shows that even Dr M does not trust the EC or any Malaysian government agency.

Indeed, I fail to see how 'Wolf of Wall Street' was “pornographic” but His Worshipfulness, Mahathir, is wiser and more worldly than I.

Next, like China, he will sentence anyone to hard labour who dares to criticise him. He will also determine that the disappearance of MH370 was a Jewish-Obama conspiracy.

Attention: Mahathir is out of his mind again. This is a dirty game started by Mahathir to challenge Najib after Najib 'won' by taking the Kedah MB’s post from his son, Mukhriz. Najib will 'win' again.

Lim Chong Leong: The referendum should be Najib, Mahathir or Anwar Ibrahim, or none of the above. Then it is fair.

Just a Malaysian: A short stint in Kamunting will give Mahathir some time to reflect. He had sent so many to Kamunting. This is karma.

ACR: It is evident that the majority of the commentators in this news item do not know what a referendum is. No, it definitely does not mean Mahathir will return as premier.

I think it is a great idea but the main problem would be if the referendum would be voted using the same EC list that is used for the GE.

That list and the voting process in this country are garbage. But it would be a good platform to test Sabah and Sarawak's support for the premier.

Frankie: One thing is certain - our "beloved" prime minister will not join in this craze with Mahathir. He's after all, the chosen one.

When you were in power, you said foreigners should not interfere in our country's affairs and now you are inviting them to assist you.

Jehangir: Get Najib out by calling for an Umno EGM first. Muhyiddin, Mukhriz and company should show some balls.

There is no precedent for a referendum and why should we vote between a devil and a demon?

Sinan Belawan: Najib's constituency of Pekan had made its choice. BN parties had made their choice. The Agong appoints the one who enjoys majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

Burning Patriot: There is nothing in election laws or the constitution that calls for such silly schoolboy popularity contests. If Mahathir wants, he can stand in Pekan in the next election.

Those unsatisfied, I suggest them join in an official political alliance and face BN in a general election soon.

That's the only way for Mahathir if he wants to continue protesting against the prime minister.

Not Convinced: Those arguing that all this be settled at the next general election must have been in deep slumber over past six years, which saw four mammoth Bersih rallies demanding clean and fair elections.

After all, the EC does not see the need to investigate BN for allegedly spending RM1.5 billion to fight the last general election.

This is akin to asking someone to go into the boxing ring and fight Mike Tyson, with his manager as the umpire.
