PARLIAMENT Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak would be a liability, not an asset to kidnappers, quipped a DAP lawmaker.

"There are many threats to the prime minister. We heard that terrorists want to kidnap the prime minister.

"I don't know if this will benefit the kidnapper seeing how the prime minister is a liability.

"We all know this. How is he going to be an asset to the kidnappers?" said Ramkarpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor).

The lawyer turned politician said this while commenting on the detention of two Australian journalists in Sarawak last weekend, after trying to question Najib on the RM2.6 billion scandal.

The duo had been arrested for allegedly approaching Najib "aggressively".

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Hamzah Zainuddin remarked that security for the prime minister had been tightened after Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamid revealed there was a terrorist plot to kidnap Najib last year.

Meanwhile on a different matter, Ramkarpal ( photo ) also questioned if the government is stalling on extraditing wanted former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar to keep aspects of the Altantuya Shaaribu murder secret.

"Is this a matter of incompetence? Or is this an attempt not to bring Sirul back because he will reveal certain secrets?

"Is it because he has information on who instructed the murder of Altantuya?" Ramkarpal asked.

He was commenting on apparent lack of progress by the government to apply for Sirul's extradition.

Sirul is currently being held in an Australia immigration detention centre after he fled the country following his conviction for the murder of Altantuya.

Australia has a policy of not extraditing wanted persons who face the death penalty in their home country.
