National Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said he is not ruling out extending the moratorium on bauxite mining in Kuantan if all aspects of compliance are not met when it expires on April 15.

"There are a lot of things to be complied with by the players, the people who provide the facilities, and the state.

"So if there are any of those things (still not complied with), there's a possibility I'll request for the government to extend.

"It depends on the compliance," he told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.

He acknowledged that there were several compliance issues that have yet to be addressed since the moratorium came into force on Jan 15.

He said the issues include designated roads for bauxite transport not being ready, lorry specifications not yet met and the readiness of Kuantan's port to resume bauxite exports.

"So until I can see these things, only then they can go on. Otherwise, I will think about it," he said.

He added that if the bauxite players cannot comply with these requirements, they will need to provide convincing alternatives compatible with the guidelines.

However, Wan Junaidi said he will only make the final decision when the time comes.
