Vindicated by speaker, Guan Eng wants Rahman to retract 'bohong'

DAP's Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng wants Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan to retract the word “bohong” (lie) uttered against him on Wednesday, when the House resumes sitting next week.

"Rahman should retract the word ‘lie’ against me in this coming Monday’s parliamentary sitting," Lim said in a statement today.

This comes after Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said that in his view, use of the word "bohong" in the House is unparliamentary .

"If I were in the House yesterday, I would have instructed the honourable minister to retract the word 'lie' that he had uttered," the speaker said

Pandikar's ruling, Lim argued, had "vindicated" him and should prompt Rahman to retract the word in the House, and to apologise for causing him and a fellow DAP parliamentarian to be ejected by deputy speaker Ismail Mohamad Said, who chaired that sitting.

"And if he is an honourable parliamentarian, Rahman ( photo ) should also apologise to me for causing me to be ejected from Parliament for a day. Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong was also ejected out of Parliament together with me," Lim said.

He stressed that he was indeed right when he fought to uphold the sanctity of the Standing Orders that the word “bohong” was unparliamentary and that it should be withdrawn by Rahman.

"Rahman had unreasonably refused to do so, which led to 90 minutes of mayhem wasted in Parliament, and me being ejected from the House for doing the right thing, while Rahman escaped unpunished for his wrongdoing," said Lim.

The minister, while winding up for his ministry during the debate on the Royal Address on Wednesday, had used the word "bohong" in relation to Lim's speech outside Parliament that the maximum price for affordable housing is fixed by the federal government, not the state government.

"The question is, will Rahman be a big enough man to eat the humble pie by admitting his mistake, and do the right thing by retracting the word ‘lie’ willingly on Monday?" Lim asked.
