Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali yesterday visited the family home of Aminulrasyid Amzah who was shot dead by police in 2010.

This followed the Shah Alam High Court decision on Thursday which found the government and police liable for killing 14-year-old Aminulrasyid, and ordered that RM414,800 in damages be awarded to his family.

Azmin hailed the decision, stating that it helped clear Aminulrasyid's name, whom police accused of carrying a machete in the car he was driving without a licence after a high-speed late night chase.

"This is not about the damages decided by the court but about the family's honour and the family of the one who has been slandered as a criminal," he told journalists during the visit in Shah Alam.

Among other leaders present to show support were PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Selangor exco Daroyah Alwi.

The family's lawyers - Latheefa Koya and N Surendran - were present. Aminulrasyid's friends, who are now grown up, were also at the house.

Meanwhile, Aminulrasyid's mother, Norsiah Mohamed, said she was grateful over the win in court.

According to the 66-year-old mother, the victory helped restore the family's good name as well as that of her deceased son.

"It's not about money but the honour of my family and my son. Honour cannot be bought," she said.

Police corporal Jenain Subi was acquitted by the courts despite evidence showing that he discharged his pistol 21 times at Aminulrasyid’s car. Norsiah subsequently filed a law suit against Jenain, the police and the government.

Aminulrasyid's childhood friend Irfan Atiffe Mohd ( photo ), now 22, said the court ruling helped give closure.

"I accept his passing but I still miss him; he was a good friend," said Irfan, who had been a close friend of Aminulrasyid since he was 12.
