Utusan Malaysia was today slammed for allegedly publishing an inaccurate report on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s speech.
Hadi’s political secretary, Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, said the article with the headline ‘Unite against DAP Agenda - Hadi’ published on March 22 was allegedly wrong and had bad intentions.
According to him, several points in the said article which was excerpted from Hadi’s speech while officially opening PAS’ Tarbiyah Centre at Bandar Tun Razak were not properly reported with the correct information.
“On the first point, I wish to state that the PAS president never mentioned in his speech about urging Muslims to unite against DAP’s political agenda and ensure the failure of its efforts to rule the country.
“On the second point, the PAS president stated that the DAP could not lead a government in a situation where 30 percent of the population would rule over the 60 percent Muslim population. This would lead to instability and unrest in the nation’s politics. The PAS president also stated that Islam could accept a multiracial society because racial politics was prohibited by Islam.
“In the third point, the PAS president never mentioned DAP’s greater ambitions which were not merely to control the economy,” he said in a statement.
Commenting further, Ahmad Samsuri said PAS regrets the wrong report that could harm the credibility of the Islamic party, especially when it was picked up by other media for the same purpose.
He urged Utusan Malaysia to withdraw the said article and offer an open apology to the PAS president before legal action was taken against the newspaper.
He said PAS also urged all news portals and media which had sourced the Utusan article for their reports to also apologise for taking up news which had not been verified.
