Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has accused former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad of attempting to play God in deciding who should helm the country.

"Maybe, he acts like a God," he was quoted as saying by news portal Malay Mail Online .

Yesterday at the People's Congress, despite saying it wasn't up to Save Malaysia group to decide who should be the next premier, Mahathir said it does not mean Zahid would take over as PM if Najib is ousted.

Mahathir also said he would even drive a lorry to bring the Citizens' Declaration to the palace.

Suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir were among those who attended the gathering.

Zahid, who is also the Umno vice-president, said the party supreme council will discuss on appropriate action to be taken against the Muhyiddin and Mukhriz.

He added that the next supreme council meeting would centre on the duo’s latest act of rebellion for their participation in the gathering, and for criticising Najib and the current leadership.

"We will discuss it in our upcoming supreme council meeting," he said.

Party secretary-general Tengku Adnan had warned disciplinary action, including expulsion, against those who attended the congress.
