Pua: Rafizi's OSA expose nothing to do with me
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua has denied having any involvement in Pandan MP Mohd Rafizi Ramli's release of classified documents.
“It has nothing to do with me. You ask Rafizi where he got it from. I don't want to be connected to that,” he told reporters today.
The member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had said this when asked whether the expose would affect his position in the committee.
Pua had previously come under fire for being a part of the 14-member bipartisan committee's investigations on the 1MDB scandal, while simultaneously being openly critical of the state investment company.
Malaysiakini does not possess any copies of the classified document nor report on its contents, due to restrictions under the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA).
However, 1MDB had said that the document is an excerpt from the auditor-general's report on the company, which the PAC is privy to.
Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar had told Malaysiakini yesterday that the police are still verifying whether the document is indeed a part of the report, in which case it would indeed be an official secret.
Such release of an official secret is an offence under Section 8(1) of the OSA, which is punishable with imprisonment for up to seven years if convicted.
Rafizi had released the document to the public on Monday, claiming that it proves links between 1MDB and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT).
Rafizi had earlier claimed army pensioners have not received their LTAT members’ contribution since 2014, but 1MDB said it no longer owes any money to LTAT subsidiaries and hence cannot be blamed for the delay.
