The police are ready in terms of personnel and logistics to ensure a smooth and safe Sarawak election, which is due by June.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the police were just waiting for the announcement on the dissolution of the state assembly, nomination day and polling day.

“All aspects have been taken into account to ensure a smooth polls. We do not want voters to have any fear coming out to exercise their right,” he said.

The police need many personnel and sufficient logistics arrangements because the nomination and polling centres were located over a wide area, he said to reporters after opening a conference of gazetted senior officers in Kulai today.

Khalid said helicopters would have to be used as some places in the state could not be reached by land.
