Stop interfering with PAC probe, 1MDB tells Rafizi

1MDB has urged Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli to stop interfering in an ongoing investigation by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

In a statement released in Kuala Lumpur late last night, 1MDB said it understood that Rafizi has lodged a police report against 1MDB's senior management.

"1MDB confirms that its senior management will fully cooperate with any investigation that may be deemed necessary by the police.

"Rafizi claims that he has publicly revealed classified information subject to the Official Secrets Act (OSA). If what Rafizi has done is true, then this blatant breach of the law is shocking, to say the least, and worse, coming from a parliamentarian," the statement said.

It added: "Rafizi's claims to 'expose' are part of an ongoing investigation by the Public Accounts Committee, a lawful select committee of Parliament, with five opposition members.

"There is no need for Rafizi to sensationalise what is already being investigated and even less need to blatantly break the law in doing so."

The sovereign wealth fund said that it has consistently maintained that if any wrongdoing is found, then action must be taken according to the law.

"We accordingly reiterate 1MDB's commitment to fully cooperate with all lawful authorities in their investigations," it said.

The statement was in response to a police report lodged by Rafizi asking for an investigation of 1MDB's senior management to ensure there was no breach of trust or violation of any law when RM228 million of 1MDB's funds were used to pay interest on loans taken by 1MDB without first informing its board of directors.
