Residents run S’gor down over Dash, SUKE construction

Residents in Ampang and Petaling Jaya yesterday expressed their disappointment claiming the Selangor government had broken promises to always take into account the views of the people before granting approval for the construction of highways in the state.

A residents' representative Agos Khasan said the state government had violated the land acquisition process and procedure for the implementation of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE) and the Damansara-Shah Alam Expressway (Dash), as stipulated in the Town and Country Planning Act.

The 'Say No to SUKE' group president said the state government had approved the two highway projects without formally listing them in the local planning documents.

He said the SUKE project should have been included in the Ampang Jaya Local Plan, while Dash in the Petaling Jaya Local Plan 2.

"However, the state government has issued the land acquisition notice for the SUKE project on July 23, 2015, as well as for the Dash project on July 10, 2015.

"According to the Town and Country Planning Act, if the projects are not included in the local plan, it should be automatically rejected," he told reporters at the lobby of the State Secretariat (SUK) Building in Shah Alam yesterday.
