PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said although 1MDB president and chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy is said to be resigning, he can still be held culpable for the scandal plaguing the state investment fund.

"Maybe his task is finished, but he has been the CEO before and he is still responsible for the actions prior to this," Rafizi said when commenting on reports that Arul Kanda may step down soon .

“I hope police arrest him (Arul Kanda) soon,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

Rafizi, who is also PKR secretary-general, said he has been summoned by the police following a report he lodged against 1MDB yesterday.

He added that he would give his statement by next Monday.

"I received a call from a Dang Wangi district police investigating officer who wanted to record my statement.

“I hope that investigations on Arul Kanda would go on according to the law," he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Yesterday, Rafizi lodged the police report, claiming violations of the law over payments made by 1MDB based on confidential documents he obtained.

'Document shows 1MDB-LTAT link'

Rafizi, who is also Pandan MP, has challenged Arul Kanda to debate him in the lock-up following his revelation of a classified document under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

He claimed the document showed a link between 1MDB and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (Army Pensioners Fund) and since then the police have started an investigation into the matter.

Rafizi also questioned the statement issued by 1MDB, which he claimed failed to deny his claim that RM288 million meant for LTAT's subsidiary Perbadanan Perwira Harta Malaysia (PPHM) was used by 1MDB to pay off interests on its own debts.

This was done without the approval of the board of directors, he said.

“I am taking the stand that 1MDB's statement did not deny my claim. This therefore indirectly confirms that the allegations I made have a basis.

“This is a criminal offence that has to be answered by Arul Kanda as CEO (of 1MDB),” Rafizi added.
