Petronas has denied responsibility for the sacking of an engineer for calling Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak an animal in the latter's Facebook comment.

"He is not our employee. He was an employee of Petronas's contractor," said a source in Petronas.

"We have nothing to do with his sacking," he told Malaysiakini on condition of anonymity.

The source was commenting on a Facebook posting that went viral and ultimately picked up by blog ' UtaraNews ', which claimed that Petronas had sacked its engineer within 24 hours after he had allegedly made the remark against Najib.

The man subsequently posted an apology to the prime minister on his Facebook .

The engineer has claimed that both the police and Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are probing him after his Facebook posting went viral.

The source also noted in the Facebook post. the man was wearing a white T-shirt with a Petronas logo.

No love for 'KISS' remark

The engineer was allegedly criticising Najib over the latter's sensational speech at National Police Day celebrations on March 25.

The prime minister at the event joked his wife Rosmah Mansor had advised him to keep his speech short.

"Before I got up to give a speech, my wife told me 'KISS'. Turns out ‘KISS’ means ‘keep it short and sweet’," Najib quipped.

The event had saw 15 police personnel fainting under the hot sun.

The joke had apparently incensed the engineer, who slammed the prime minister for the remark.

When asked to comment, Petronas told Malaysiakini curtly, "Petronas reserves any comments as he is not a Petronas employee."

Meanwhile the source said he had no idea of the engineer's current fate.
