Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin's condition has stabilised after successfully undergoing surgery to treat a stroke-induced brain haemorrhage, though he is still warded in the Intensive Care Unit at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) said Amanah secretary-general Anuar Tahir.

"He is still in ICU after the surgery on Monday. His condition is stable but doctors are still keeping him under close observation.

"He suffered from a stroke," Anuar told Malaysiakini .

The Sepang MP was rushed to the National Heart Institute (IJN) Monday evening after he was found slumped at his seat in the Dewan Rakyat, and was later transferred to the HKL emergency ward and sent for surgery to treat a brain haemorrhage.

Anuar added that Hanipa is still unconscious as doctors are keeping him under sedation, pending his recovery.

He hoped that all can pray for the recovery of Hanipa and another Amanah leader Asmuni Awi who is now recuperating in IJN after undergoing a heart bypass operation a few days ago.

"We hope that all can pray for Hanipa's and Asmuni's recovery so that they can go back to be in service. Allah willing," he said.

Asked if the illness that has befallen the two Amanah leaders will affect the party's campaigning in the upcoming Sarawak state elections, Anuar dismissed such concerns.

He explained that many other Amanah leaders are ready to go to the ground for the polls.

However, Anuar said the party regrets that Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem has barred its president Mohamad Sabu from entering the Kenyalang state recently, saying that the act had diminished the atmosphere of the election which should be celebrating democracy.

"There is no more joy in the the coming state polls," he said.

The Sarawak state legislature will be dissolved on April 11 which will pave the way for the 11th state polls.
